Sebaceous cysts are usually painless and soft to the touch, and they grow slowly. They may appear on the scalp, neck, or face, and sometimes on other parts of the body. Although they are usually harmless, they can cause discomfort or become inflamed if they become infected.
In most cases, sebaceous cysts do not require treatment and go away on their own, but sometimes they may require medical intervention if they are painful, inflamed, or if they increase in size significantly.
